Supanova 09

  • Mar. 29th, 2009 at 9:30 PM

This year supanova was a bit more meh than last time, maybe more of a one day than two day event. I still blew 200 bucks though...there's a reason why i don't walk into comic shops anymore :)
And then I had to go and stay up WAY too late on saturday and completely wrecked myself for sunday...no hayden q&a for me.. :(

And i know I'm late to the party but I just found out that scans_daily got shut down :( Tremendous suck and I've no idea where I'm gonna get my fix now...

This is one hell of a catchy song,

And here's a hires downloadable version of it.

Idle thought....asia has lots of super groups (large gorups of male/female performers), so why hasn't the western world caught on? Pussycat dolls is the closest example I can think of, but their sexuality is too in your face comparatively...

oh and there have been boy bands....

where's all the other big bands?

In other news, my house is currently hosting an uncle and his wife as they are on vacation from China. No biggie, aside from having to actually put a password on my pc :)

tomorrow supanova and the cheerleader (oh and starbuck as well!) :)

Burlesque Ball

  • Mar. 23rd, 2009 at 1:19 AM

Went to a Burlesque Ball yesterday, http://www.jacbowie.com/ball/. It was down in Thornbury and it was fun to get all dressed up for a night. It was a fun night and it was great just seeing so many ppl dressed up/down, with bare buttocks and underwear and corsets and suits. And lots and lots of boobage (sp?). Oh and don't forget the pasties and tassels :)

There were about 5 performers doing two acts each, with a brass band performing and a pretty good MC. At the end of the night, I was well and truly clapped out. Good night was had :)

Busy weekend with not much sleep going on
Nothing like getting last minute invited to a house party where you meet an aspiring film-maker, and just talk movies all night long...oh and some kisses from 2 lesbians :P Went to bed at 5am saturday morning.

My Bloody Valentine 3D....3D may be a gimmick but gosh darn it...it worked to draw me into watching the movie. I definitely wouldn't have watched it otherwise. But...was it worth it? Not really...give it a 2 outta 5 and that score is definitely bumped b/c of the 3d effects. Fun watching the Jensen Ackles and the gay guy from dawsons creek trying to play young adults and then "10 years later" and they look EXACTLY the same age...but oh wait...one has facial hair! 3d bits were alright, kinda spotted the "twist" about a third into the movie. Meh. Then went out and had drinks and talked science with a couple of people and it was fun! Great to exercise a part of my knowledge that I really hadn't visited since my uni days. Went to bed ridiculously late again.

Sunday was a roadtrip to Bendigo for an exhibition titled "The Golden age of Couture". Awesome clothing and a fun time was had. I recommend it for everybody but it closes this weekend, so you'd better organise a trip fast!

JCVD was a good movie for Jean Claude Van Damme, similar in style to the Wrestler, but not as crushing for his character. I hope he gets some good parts after this, and it's well deserving of it's praise.

In other news to celebrate my birthday I finally got around to finishing Psychonauts and aside from a REALLY frustrating jumping puzzle at the end, it was a great game. Now I'm at a gaming loss...I've got stacks of games, but nothing is jumping out to be played...oh wells...the complaints of the wealthy :)

Oh and here's some cool stop motion fun,

IMAX Watchmen and stuff

  • Mar. 12th, 2009 at 1:55 AM

Impressive movie and I liked watching it. It made me want to re-read the comic.
Birthday dinner and drinks was awesome, saw a whole bunch of ppl and even saw some that I wasn't expecting. Good time was had on the weekend and now I want to rest up. But alas, duty calls. Long weekend helped out though :)

Furniture Tetris

  • Feb. 17th, 2009 at 1:20 AM

There's a popular stereotype, where if you disassemble and reassemble something, you end up with extra bits or something not quite fitting. I always thought it was a stupid lie, like a watched pot never boiling.

My bro and I just spent 3 and a half hours (amidst heated discussions) reassembling the living and dining room now that the lacquer has had enough time to cure/breathe. And now the living room isn't quite as good as before.

The sofa chairs are right angled to the tv and if you sit in one, unless you wanna look 90 degrees to your right, you'll stare at a wall.
*sigh*

And the less said about the frustration generated reassembling the AV equipment the better. Who knew a Chinese Satellite box, VCR and DVD player could cause so much heartache?

I'm home again!

  • Feb. 16th, 2009 at 1:31 AM

After a couple of night sleeping on a couch and being woken to my friend neighbours kids playing basketball and calling each other derogatory names, I'm home again!

The wooden floor is looking nice and shiny again....and I'm only getting a slight buzz from the lacquer fumes.

Now all the chairs, tables, sofas and other stuff has to be moved back. Monday night is gonna be fun :/

Sleeping on a strange couch did mess my sleep up, but the fun thing was, i still had a blast hanging out with friends [movies, dinner, somethingilike]. Unfortunately I DID go to bed at 6am on Sunday so my sleep schedule is wacked...as you'll see from my posting time. >.<

In other news, there's a slight star trek phase going around so check this site out,
http://goanimate.com/

You can animate and create your own animated videos, and they've got a Star Trek AND street fighter theme. Looks fun :)
