MIFF 2011 Writeup

Wow...I've been slack with LJ, but work and life has left me really busy. Here's my MIFF 2011 writeup, hidden out of consideration for the huge chunk of text...

Lots of movies... )

I'll put up my list of recommendations soon but for now, ciao

Too good to not post

Hi All,

Got quite a few things to go over, so I'll hide it all under a cut.

Here's a movie summary: Thor is surprisingly ok, 3D is crap watch in 2D.
Suckerpunch: Walk in with no expectations and it's a very pretty movie, with some cool cotumes and action.
Girl who Kicked the Hornets Nest: Nice movie, less about ass-kicking, more about wrapping up the trilogy.
Scott Pilgrim: Still good the seventh time around.

Hi All,

Yet another update on my busy busy life.

Dom had a housewarming/birthday party that was fun. Nothing like sitting around enjoying a BBQ and soaking in the sun whilst having such random random conversations :)

And then Portal 2 landed...sucking up HEAPS of my time and was soooo much fun. I usually wait for a sale before buying a game, but I just couldn't resist for Portal 2. And it was worth it in my opinion, soooo good. :D

Squash was fun, but my arm now aches when I turn it a certain way. Note to self...don't twist arm...or healthy up, either case works well.

Then onto boardgames and Daniel Kitson. Great times all round.
I'm now day 2 into a 5 day Easter weekend that's chock full of events. Part of me wonders when I'll have some time for myself...and another part of me doesn't want it to stop :)

Hi Fearless reader,

I've been pretty busy for the last two weeks, but I've finally gotten some time to post an update.

Two and a bit weeks of stuff inside... )

Went to my first 2011 Comedy Festival gig which was a US Headliners act...mainly for Garfunkel and Oates, an awesome awesome duo whom I love...if only because of the Gooch/Kate Micucci :)

and

And here's some Garfunkel and Oates

There were a whole bunch of other comedians, who were really funny in their own way. I had a great time and laughed harder than I had in a looong time. Laughter really is a great medicine :)

Oh and pre-show dinner I had a steak which was served with monkeygland sauce! :)

OH! And I got a cd signed by them both and a picture too!!! :)))
----
Next night was a quick catchup dinner with Richard and Judy, which was fun. Got to hear their hilarious proposal story, talked about Wow, Dungeons and Dragons, HIV research, living in America, Terry Pratchett, Macgyver, Quantum Leap and lots of other topics. My friends are awessome :)

The Adventures of Tiny Hermione

25 years of Pixar

Just watch this awesome video

The Japanese bluesgrass busker on Bourke St held a fundraiser for Japan on the weekend and I went. He'd teamed up with a Shamisen player and it was a fun night. I'd never seen a Shamisen played like an electric guitar :P All the bluesgrass music made me nostalgic for Cowboy Bebop :)

Randomly went to the Belgian Beer Garden down at southbank and it was fun. Sat around talking and drinking cider...a good time was had.

Went to another MIFF member screening, and saw some old MIFF buddies which is always good. The movie was "Never Let Me Go"...a very servicable british tragic romance. Notable for Carey Mulligan who is just awesome as always, and getting to see Andrew Garfield act before the new Spiderman comes out. He was alright, but if you want to see Andrew Garfield looking a lot more cooler and better dressed, I recommend the Social Network. :)

Went and had dinner at "After the Tears", a Vodka bar which was really nice. I had some awesome vodka, so awesome in fact that I had to mass spam people to share the love. It's called siwucha and if you ever see it, give it a shot. It's super smooth and has no burn.

In other news, goulash definitely does not agree with my stomach :(

Adrian's going away party

Feeling more sad than usual right now...had a going away party for an awesome awesome friend, as he's moving to the US for the next couple of years, and maybe permanently... :(

So here's to you Adrian *glass raise*, have fun in Texas, you big old Italian cowboy you :)
