On Sunday I went and checked out the PIXAR exhibit at ACMI.
It was really really awesome. I recommend that you enter the ACMI via flinders street and check out the huge lamp statue on the steps, it's really cool. Unfortunately I didn't take pics of that, but when you enter the ACMI and get tickets you get greeted with this. It's a modded Porsche911 made up to look like Sally Carrera from CARS.
Also when you go up to the merchandise store on the second floor you get to see
Mike and
Sulley, the two main characters from Monsters Inc. And all that's just in the public area! Note no touching, BUT if you bring a little child accomplice I'm sure you can get away with touching the fur whilst "shooing" your buddy ;)
Inside the exhibit, photo's aren't allowed so no goodness there. It's really great you get to see lots and lots of reference images, drawings and models from the PIXAR archives. There's a Zoetrope that works on a flashing light showing models from Toy Story waving, moving and jumping around. There's a little plaque even saying that PIXAR's zoetrope was inspired by the one at the GHIBLI museum. Apparantly there's one of a totorro waving?
There's also a short film which shows on a megawide screen. It took 4 projectors to show, and it's a little animated feature zooming from pic to pic in the pixar universe. Neato. There's just tonnes and tonnes of behind the scenes stuff.
There's an lineup of models of Sully in various stages of evolution. At an early stage he was supposed to walk on tentacles! There's a page showing how they created the cow tractors in CARS, and there's even a sneak preview of Ratatouille as well.
There's just heaps and heaps of stuff there, I spent a good hour and a half just looking at it all. It's just awesome and well worth the fifteen bucks entry. I even splashed out and got the audio tour thing as well. It's nice but the voices are slightly annoying.
Did you know in a really really early draft of the Incredibles there was a scene in a bar? Did you know during the script process of Monsters INC, Sully flipped flopped from being the best scarer to the worst scarer?
It's awesome awesome stuff.
Oh and in other news,
These gamer wedding pics are AWESOME

P.S. anyone know how to embed images? I tried using the blog this function in flickr, but it seemed to only allow me to do one pic per post :(

There is indeed a zoetrope. I don't recall if totoro was waving or not, but there certainly is a display where you can see the catbus in motion around where Mei and Satsuki and running around a couple of totoros with one if I recall, right bang in the middle of it.
